In Australia, each daycare and early learning centre designs its own daily routines based on the educational approach it adopts. However, it is possible to describe a general routine that many centres commonly follow.
Most centres open at around 7:30 am.
7:30–9:00 am: Free play
9:00 am: Morning tea
10:00 am: Group time, followed by planned learning activities
11:00 am–12:00 pm: Free play
12:00–1:00 pm: Lunch
1:00–2:00 pm: Rest time
For younger age groups, this is usually nap time for children who need sleep.
For older children, this period may include quiet activities such as relaxation, meditation, reading books, and resting.
2:30–3:00 pm: Afternoon tea
3:30–4:30 pm: Free play
5:00 pm: Late snack
5:30–6:00 pm: Free play
In general, most centres close at 6:00 pm.
